The Kenya Airports Authority (KAA) has proposed reviewing concession fees and cargo charges at major airports across the country, a move that could affect businesses operating within airport facilities.

In a public notice issued on Saturday, October 24, 2026, the authority invited members of the public and industry stakeholders to submit their views on proposed changes to the Concession Order Schedule, which has been in place since 1996.

KAA said the review aims to align fees with prevailing market values while helping the authority meet rising operational, maintenance and infrastructure development costs.

“The proposed review seeks to align fees with prevailing market value and offset rising airport operational costs, maintenance costs and infrastructural development requirements,” the authority stated.

The proposed changes could affect cargo companies, airlines, ground-handling firms, transport providers, hospitality businesses and other service providers operating at designated airports.

However, KAA has not yet announced the final rates or confirmed how much individual charges could change. The review remains at the public participation stage, meaning the proposed adjustments are not yet confirmed as new charges.

Airports Set for the Review

The review covers commercial activities at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA), Wilson Airport, Moi International Airport in Mombasa, Kisumu International Airport and Eldoret International Airport.

Businesses operating at these facilities will have an opportunity to raise concerns about the proposed changes and explain how the review could affect their operations.

The authority has also invited government agencies, financial institutions, airlines, cargo operators, concessionaires and members of the public to participate in the process.

The existing framework regulates fees paid by different categories of businesses operating within the designated airports. Updating it could change how some airport-related services are charged, depending on the final decisions reached after consultations.

KAA Announces Public Participation Meetings

KAA has scheduled public participation forums for Tuesday, November 24, 2026, in Nairobi, Mombasa, Kisumu and Eldoret.

In Nairobi, the meeting will take place at Panari Hotel from 9am to noon. The forum will cover JKIA, including its cargo operations, and Wilson Airport.

In Mombasa, stakeholders will meet at PrideInn Paradise Beach Resort and Spa from 8am to noon to discuss matters relating to Moi International Airport.

The Kisumu forum will be held at Acacia Premier Hotel, also from 8am to noon, while the Eldoret meeting will take place at Boma Inn Hotel during the same hours.

The meetings are intended to give affected businesses and other interested parties an opportunity to present their views before the review process is concluded.

Deadline for Written Submissions

Stakeholders who cannot attend the physical meetings can submit their comments in writing.

KAA has set Tuesday, December 1, 2026, as the deadline for written submissions, which should be sent to marketing.publicparticipation@kaa.go.ke.

The authority said all submissions received within the stipulated period would be considered during the review.

Interested parties can access the relevant documents through the official KAA website at https://www.kaa.go.ke.

The outcome of the consultation process will determine the final changes, if any, to the existing concession and cargo rates.

For now, businesses operating at the affected airports have been invited to participate in the review before any revised charges are finalised.
