Naivas Supermarkets is preparing to extend shopping hours at selected branches as the retailer launches a three-month campaign aimed at attracting customers during the busy festive season.
The supermarket chain says some outlets could operate 24 hours a day to give shoppers more flexibility as they prepare for Christmas and the end-of-year celebrations.
The move comes at a time when many Kenyan households are struggling with rising living costs and have less money available for shopping.
As part of the Kikwetu campaign, Naivas plans to offer discounts of up to 60 per cent on selected products, alongside daily promotions designed to help customers save money.
Cyrus Mathenge, Naivas’ head of operations at the Greenspan branch, said the retailer was adjusting its operations to serve customers better during the peak shopping period.
He indicated that some branches were already operating around the clock, with further communication about the extended hours expected from the company.
Naivas Moves to Protect Customers From Rising Costs
The retailer has also pledged to work with suppliers and find internal cost savings instead of automatically transferring rising operating expenses to shoppers.
The decision comes amid pressure on household budgets, with recent fuel price increases adding to concerns about the cost of living.
Naivas Chief Executive Officer Andreas von Paleske said the company understands that many customers have limited disposable income and is focusing on offering competitive prices.
The retailer hopes its discounts and promotional offers will encourage shoppers to continue buying essential goods despite the economic pressure facing households.
Cars, Electronics and Other Prizes on Offer
The three-month Kikwetu Kila Siku campaign will also feature various prizes, including cars, shopping vouchers, electronics, goats and chickens.
The promotion forms part of Naivas’ strategy to attract customers during the festive season, when supermarkets compete for a larger share of household spending.
Mathenge said the retailer was also working to improve customer service as shoppers become increasingly careful about how they spend their money.
What Shoppers Should Expect
Customers can expect promotional offers on selected products, while those shopping at participating branches may benefit from extended opening hours.
However, the proposed 24-hour operations will apply only to selected locations, and shoppers should wait for official communication from Naivas regarding the specific branches and their operating schedules.
The campaign highlights the growing competition among retailers to attract price-sensitive consumers as Kenya approaches the Christmas shopping season.
For Naivas, the challenge will be to offer attractive deals, maintain affordable prices and manage the additional costs associated with longer operating hours.
