Here in Kenya, Mombasa is one of the most attractive places one can wish to visit but in recent days, insecurity in the area has been scaring away many people.
While that is the case, today Coast Regional Police Commander Ali Nuno issued a strong directive authorizing police officers to shoot and kill armed robbers terrorizing residents in Mombasa and surrounding areas.
According to NTV Kenya through their official X account, Nuno declared in Swahili: “Hao vijana wahalifu waangushwe. Mtachimba makaburi hapa Mombasa”.
The order targets violent gangs, particularly those wielding machetes (pangas), knives, and other crude weapons, who have escalated robberies and attacks across Mombasa, Kilifi, and Kwale counties.
Nuno emphasized that police would not hesitate to use firearms when officers or civilians face immediate danger from armed suspects.
He presented criminals with two options: surrender and abandon crime or leave the Coast region entirely.

The announcement follows a surge in gang-related violence, with groups like the notorious Panga Boys implicated in looting businesses and assaulting residents.
Recent operations have led to arrests, including suspects linked to CCTV-recorded attacks. Nuno’s tough stance aims to restore security amid public frustration over rising insecurity.
The directive has sparked discussions online, with some residents expressing support for decisive action against the gangs, while raising questions about accountability and human rights implications.
