People’s Liberation Party (PLP) leader Martha Karua has issued a strong call to the international community to investigate the surge in abductions and human rights abuses across East African Community (EAC) member states.
Speaking on Tuesday, Karua expressed deep concern over the silence of global organizations amid growing political repression in the region.
“We call on Jumuiya to launch urgent inquiries into cross-border abductions. The African Union, through the African Commission on Human and Peoples’ Rights, and the UN Human Rights Council must establish a commission of inquiry into human rights abuses in Tanzania, Uganda, and Kenya,” she declared.
Karua condemned what she termed as international complicity through silence and called for global accountability.
“The world must demand an immediate halt to political repression in East Africa, the release of all political prisoners, accountability for state-sponsored torture and abductions, and free and fair elections where the people’s choices are respected,” she emphasized.

The PLP leader also called on the European Union and other democratic allies to impose targeted sanctions against individuals responsible for enforced disappearances and the suppression of civic freedoms.
Karua concluded by rallying citizens of East Africa to unite in civic solidarity and challenge the culture of fear.
“It is time to break the silence,” she said, urging coordinated regional action against repression.
Her remarks come amid increasing reports of abductions and intimidation targeting activists, opposition figures, and journalists across several EAC states.
