Youths in Nyando Constituency disrupted an address by ODM Chairperson and Homa Bay Governor Gladys Wanga, alongside Migori Governor Ochilo Ayacko.
As the leaders spoke to the gathered crowd, enthusiastic young supporters repeatedly chanted the name of Embakasi East MP Babu Owino, overshadowing the event.
The incident, captured in videos shared widely on social media and reported by K24TV, highlighted emerging tensions within the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM).
Babu Owino, a vocal and popular figure often associated with the “Linda Mwananchi” faction, has been gaining significant traction among youth and opposition supporters.
Many posts described the chants as a sign of shifting loyalties and the MP’s rising influence ahead of the 2027 elections, with some even declaring “the canon is inevitable” and calling for Babu Owino to lead the party.
The rally in Nyando, a key area in Kisumu County, was intended to rally support for ODM’s agenda under Raila Odinga’s influence. Instead, the interruption underscored internal divisions, particularly over strategies like broad-based government participation versus fielding an independent presidential candidate.

This episode reflects Babu Owino’s strong appeal to younger voters frustrated with the status quo, signaling potential challenges for established ODM figures in maintaining unified support at the grassroots level.
