Former Education Cabinet Secretary Ezekiel Machogu has officially launched his second bid for the Kisii County governorship ahead of the 2027 General Election.
The announcement, reported by Daily Nation, marks a renewed push by the longtime public administrator to lead the county after his defeat in 2022.
In the previous election, Machogu contested on a UDA ticket but secured only 82,104 votes, falling far short of the winner, current Governor Simba Arati, who garnered 270,928 votes.
Despite the loss, Machogu has re-emerged, updating his social media profiles to signal his gubernatorial ambitions and vowing to bring change to Kisii.
Notably, Machogu used the occasion to endorse former Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i for president in 2027.

He described Matiang’i as Kenya’s “last remaining hope” to rescue the nation from the political and economic challenges he attributed to the current administration—ironically, one in which Machogu served as a Cabinet minister for two years.
While Machogu has not yet revealed his preferred political party or ticket for the gubernatorial race, his alignment with Matiang’i—recently named Jubilee Party’s presidential candidate—suggests strategic ties in the Gusii region.

The move sets up a potentially competitive contest, with other figures like Kisii Senator Richard Onyonka also eyeing the seat.
Machogu’s bid highlights shifting dynamics in Kisii politics as 2027 approaches.
