Political analyst Willis Evans Otieno has launched a scathing attack on President William Ruto’s leadership, accusing him of failing to transition from campaign mode to statesmanship.
Through his official X account, Otieno argued that since taking office, Ruto has continued to operate as though he were still on the campaign trail, prioritizing political rallies, rhetoric, and constant politicking over actual governance.
“Ruto has never truly transitioned from candidate to head of state,” Otieno remarked.
“He still operates as if he’s on the campaign trail; rallies, rhetoric, and politicking while governance takes a back seat.”
Otieno further criticized the manner in which State House is currently being run, saying it has ceased to function as the central hub of policy-making and service delivery.
Instead, he claimed, it has morphed into what he described as a “marketplace of deals, corruption, and money games.”
According to him, this trend undermines the very essence of the presidency, leaving critical issues of national development unattended.
He warned that the greatest tragedy of this leadership style is the neglect of ordinary citizens, who are left without clear direction or effective leadership.
“While Ruto is busy trading influence, ordinary Kenyans are left without leadership,” Otieno lamented, highlighting the growing frustrations among the public over economic hardships, high cost of living, and delayed policy implementation.

His remarks come at a time when President Ruto is under increasing pressure from opposition leaders, civil society, and even some within his ruling coalition to focus more on governance rather than politics.
As Kenyans grapple with tough economic realities, calls for the president to shift from politicking to concrete action are likely to intensify.
