The Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Coalition has undergone a significant leadership reshuffle, appointing Wiper Democratic Movement leader Kalonzo Musyoka as its new party leader.
The decision was made during a joint meeting of the Azimio Council and National Executive Committee (NEC) on February 2, 2026, chaired by former President Uhuru Kenyatta.
Kalonzo Musyoka, a veteran politician and former Vice President, steps into the role previously held by Raila Odinga, who passed away in October 2025.
In a statement, Kalonzo graciously accepted the appointment, expressing gratitude to Uhuru Kenyatta, the coalition’s leadership, and constituent parties for the trust placed in him.
His elevation is seen as a strategic move to provide fresh direction and leverage his extensive experience in opposition coalitions amid recent challenges, including internal discord, defections, and a perceived loss of momentum.
In a related change, Suba South MP Caroli Omondi has been appointed as the new secretary-general, replacing Junet Mohamed.
The reshuffle, communicated through official channels including the Office of the Registrar of Political Parties, aims to revitalize the opposition alliance ahead of future political battles.

This development signals former President Uhuru Kenyatta’s continued influence in reasserting control and steering Azimio toward renewed unity and purpose in Kenya’s dynamic political landscape.
