George Peter Kaluma, a vocal Kenyan MP, accused prominent Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) leaders—James Orengo, Edwin Sifuna, Babu Owino, and Geoffrey Osotsi—of having long defected from the party to align with the Gachagua/Kalonzo faction.
Through his official X account, Kaluma claimed former President Uhuru Kenyatta is funding these politicians with to divide ODM and undermine Raila Odinga’s legacy, insisting their efforts have failed and will never succeed.
The post accompanied a video clip from a recent event in Busia County, shared via Kenya Digital News, showing Sifuna, Owino, Orengo, and others addressing a crowd under ODM banners.
The gathering appeared to rally supporters amid ongoing party debates over its direction, particularly regarding participation in the broad-based government with President William Ruto.
These accusations highlight deepening fractures within ODM ahead of the 2027 elections. While no official defections have been confirmed, critics like Kaluma portray these leaders as disloyal second wing elements opposing the party’s current stance.

Sifuna, Orengo, Owino and Osotsi have been vocal on issues like governance and opposition strategy, often clashing with pro-government figures in the party.
Kaluma’s remarks reflect broader political realignments, with opposition coalitions involving Rigathi Gachagua (DCP) and Kalonzo Musyoka (Wiper) gaining traction.

Whether these claims fuel further division or galvanize ODM loyalists remains to be seen in Kenya’s evolving political landscape.
