On International Day of Women and Girls in Science, former First Lady Michelle Obama highlighted the transformative power of STEM education for girls worldwide through her initiative, the Girls Opportunity Alliance.
Through her official X account, Michelle expressed pride in supporting the Dhammajarinee Witthayaya School (also referred to as Dhammanajarinee Witthaya School) in Thailand.
This institution provides free education, safe housing, and meals to underserved girls, achieving an impressive over 90% university attendance rate among its students.
The Girls Opportunity Alliance’s backing has enabled the school to expand its computer science and STEM programs significantly. A key impact includes supplying 155 laptops to students—many of whom had never used a computer before. Now, these girls are learning to code and aspiring to careers as game developers, programmers, and innovators in technology fields.

The attached video in the post captures students engaging with math and inequality problems on a laptop, illustrating hands-on digital learning in action.
Michelle Obama encouraged followers to learn more about the school’s story and consider contributing to the cause via the Girls Opportunity Alliance’s fundraising efforts on GoFundMe.
This initiative, part of the Obama Foundation, partners with grassroots organizations globally to break barriers and empower adolescent girls through education.

By investing in tools like computers and STEM curricula, programs like this are equipping girls to lead and innovate, proving that when girls succeed, communities and the world thrive.
