Former First Lady Michelle Obama extended her best wishes to the extraordinary athletes representing Team USA at the 2026 Winter Olympics and Paralympics in Milan-Cortina, Italy.
“Good luck to all the extraordinary athletes representing @TeamUSA at the Winter Olympics and Paralympics! It’s been so inspiring to follow your journeys to the world stage, and we’ll be cheering you on as you compete in Italy,” said MichelleObama.
This positive and unifying statement comes just days after President Donald Trump sparked outrage by sharing a racist video on Truth Social depicting Barack and Michelle Obama as apes in a jungle setting—a centuries-old trope used to dehumanize Black people.
The video, which promoted election fraud claims and superimposed the Obamas’ faces on primates, was posted late February 5 and deleted after bipartisan backlash, including from Republicans like South Carolina’s Lt. Governor.
Trump refused to apologize, blaming a staffer and claiming he hadn’t seen the offensive segment.

While Trump’s post drew condemnation for perpetuating racial stereotypes rooted in eugenics and Jim Crow era imagery, Michelle Obama’s message shifts focus to inspiration and national pride.
As the Games unfold, her words highlight resilience and unity, contrasting sharply with the divisive rhetoric from the White House.

Team USA, with over 200 athletes, began competitions on February 6, aiming for medal glory in events like skiing and figure skating.
