Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen has cautioned farmers in Nandi County to be on high alert against seasonal exploitation, particularly from individuals who prey on unsuspecting men during the harvest period.
Speaking during the 19th edition of Jukwaa la Usalama grassroots security forum held in Kapsabet, Murkomen emphasized the need for vigilance as opportunists often flock rural areas during harvest seasons.
Murkomen specifically pointed to an increase in cases where prostitutes and fraudsters target male farmers, seeking to benefit from the influx of money following the sale of farm produce.
“During this time, many people, including women of questionable character, are known to take advantage of hardworking farmers. Be careful not to fall into traps that can ruin your lives and families,” he warned.
The CS encouraged local leaders, elders, and youth groups to raise awareness and help safeguard the community’s well-being.

He also urged the police and administrators to heighten surveillance during the season to curb such exploitative behaviors.
Murkomen’s remarks sparked discussion among residents, many of whom acknowledged that similar incidents have been witnessed in the past.
His visit aimed to enhance community-level engagement in addressing both security and social challenges in the region.
