[Source: United Nations]<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The mission&#8217;s closure follows a transition process agreed upon by the UN and the Federal Government of Somalia, with its responsibilities being transferred to Somali institutions and other UN agencies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Despite the development, the UN has stressed that Somalia continues to face significant security, political and humanitarian challenges. It has called for sustained international support to strengthen state institutions, promote reconciliation and address the threat posed by Al-Shabaab.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The militant group has remained a major security concern in Somalia and the wider East African region, with Kenya continuing to face risks linked to cross-border attacks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The UN has reaffirmed its commitment to supporting Somalia through its resident agencies and other programmes, working alongside Somali authorities, the African Union and international partners.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The end of UNTMIS does not mean that all UN activities in Somalia are ending.
