The Kenya Electricity Generating Company (KenGen) has appointed Ronoh Kibet Charles as its next Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, setting the stage for a leadership change at the state-owned power producer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In a statement released on Saturday, October 24, 2026, the company announced that Kibet would officially assume office on February 1, 2027, succeeding outgoing CEO Peter Waweru Njenga, who is set to retire.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

KenGen said the appointment followed a competitive recruitment process, with the transition period expected to allow an orderly handover and continuity in implementing the company’s strategic plans.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Kibet currently serves as KenGen’s General Manager for Commercial Services, where he oversees energy markets, investments, new business, partnerships, marketing, corporate communication and sustainability.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to the company, he brings more than 17 years of professional experience spanning geothermal development, project delivery, commercial strategy and business growth.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

His career has included contributions to renewable energy projects, the expansion of KenGen’s international consultancy services and the development of the Olkaria Green Energy Park.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Meet KenGen’s Incoming CEO<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Kibet holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Telecommunication and Information Engineering and a Master of Science degree in Project Management from Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He is also a certified Project Management Professional and SAP Project System Consultant.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

His executive training includes an Organisational Leadership programme at Harvard Business School, alongside executive education at IESE Business School in Spain, the University of Cape Town and Strathmore Business School.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Kibet is affiliated with the Engineers Board of Kenya, the Institution of Engineers of Kenya and the Geothermal Association of Kenya. He is also a recipient of the Order of the Grand Warrior of Kenya (OGW).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

His appointment comes as KenGen continues to pursue renewable energy development, expand its geothermal operations and explore business opportunities beyond electricity generation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Outgoing CEO Leaves After Leading Company Growth<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Kibet will succeed Peter Waweru Njenga, whose tenure included improvements in KenGen’s financial performance and expansion of its geothermal consultancy business.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The company reported a profit after tax of KSh10.48 billion in the 2025 financial year, while also diversifying its business and expanding international consultancy assignments, including work in Eswatini.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

KenGen’s board expressed appreciation for Njenga’s leadership and service, wishing him a fulfilling retirement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The board also voiced confidence that Kibet would build on the company’s achievements by strengthening performance, developing employees and pursuing further growth and innovation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The incoming CEO will take charge as Kenya continues to invest in electricity generation to meet demand from households, businesses and industries.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

His priorities will include maintaining KenGen’s performance, supporting renewable energy development and advancing the company’s commercial growth strategy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
