He urged service members to manage their finances responsibly and avoid arrangements that could place them in financial difficulties.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">According to reports, some informal lenders in Kenya charge monthly interest rates ranging from 20 to 30 per cent, with certain short-term loans reportedly attracting even higher rates. Such arrangements can leave borrowers struggling with growing debts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The warning comes amid concerns over financial disputes involving some military personnel. Reported cases include soldiers allegedly borrowing large sums from civilian lenders for business ventures before failing to repay the money.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Other cases have involved allegations of individuals seeking money from members of the public by promising to secure them recruitment opportunities in the military.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">KDF personnel who engage in fraud or conduct that violates military discipline may face disciplinary proceedings under the Kenya Defence Forces Act, 2012.
