Treasury Cabinet Secretary John Mbadi has assured Kenyans that the government is committed to addressing any financial shortfalls in school capitation ahead of the opening of Term 3.
Speaking on Monday, Mbadi revealed that he has invited the Cabinet Secretary for Education, along with their respective Principal Secretaries, for a joint meeting to review and resolve funding challenges.
“I have invited the CS for Education together with his PSs, together with my PSs, to discuss any funding gap that is there on capitation and to see how to fill it,” Mbadi stated.
His remarks come amid growing concerns from school heads over delays and inadequacies in disbursement of capitation funds, which are crucial for running daily school operations.
Capitation funds are meant to support tuition, learning materials, and other essential services in public schools.
Any delays often disrupt academic programs, especially as schools prepare to reopen.
Mbadi’s statement signals a proactive approach to ensure smooth operations in the upcoming term.
The meeting between the Treasury and Education ministries is expected to result in immediate measures to close any funding gaps, guaranteeing that schools have the resources needed to run efficiently for the remainder of the academic year.
