Liverpool manager Arne Slot has offered an optimistic yet measured update on star striker Alexander Isak, acknowledging that fans and the club are yet to witness the Swedish forward’s peak form.
As reported by Fabrizio Romano through his official X account, Slot admitted: “Unfortunately for him and us we haven’t seen the best Alexander Isak. We will next season.”
The £125 million summer signing from Newcastle has endured a frustrating debut campaign at Anfield. Isak has been sidelined since December after suffering a serious ankle injury and fibula fracture while scoring in a win over Tottenham.
He has only managed a handful of goals so far, far below expectations for the talented No. 9.
Slot provided hope for the current season, revealing that Isak has progressed to running on the pitch this week as part of his final rehabilitation stages.
He indicated a potential return to group training around the end of March or start of April, around the international break, provided there are no setbacks. “Let’s not put a timescale on it but it’s clear he will be available if things go as planned this season,” Slot added.

While Slot expects Isak to contribute before the campaign ends—and believes a full pre-season will unlock a transformed player—he emphasized that the “best Alex” is more likely to emerge next term.
This update offers Liverpool supporters encouragement amid injury woes, signaling brighter days ahead for their record signing.
