Mumias East MP Hon. Peter Salasaya has once again voiced sharp criticism of the political landscape in Kenya, accusing the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) of distracting citizens from pressing national issues.
Through his official X account, Salasaya lamented that ODM keeps Kenyans “busy” debating internal party matters—particularly the Secretary-General (SG) positions—while major problems within the government go unaddressed.
He highlighted the stagnation of the Kenyan economy, widespread corruption (“kuibwa ata chai kwa ministries” — even tea being stolen in ministries), and the irony of broke government departments contrasted with individuals “swimming in money” elsewhere.
The post reflects growing frustration among some politicians and citizens over perceived misdirection. Salasaya suggested that discussions around ODM’s internal drama, including recent changes like the replacement of Edwin Sifuna as SG and ongoing debates about the role, serve as a diversion tactic.
This allows serious governance failures—such as economic stagnation, stalled development projects, and systemic graft—to continue unchecked.
Kenya has faced persistent economic challenges, with reports indicating corruption costing billions annually and contributing to stagnant growth, poor public service delivery, and public discontent. Salasaya’s remarks align with broader calls for accountability, urging Kenyans to shift focus from partisan politics to core issues like reviving the economy and curbing theft in public offices.

His outspoken style continues to spark debate, reminding the public that political spectacles should not overshadow the real struggles of ordinary citizens.
