General Muhoozi Kainerugaba, Uganda’s Chief of Defence Forces and son of President Yoweri Museveni, announced he is ending his public feud with Minister of Information, Communications Technology and National Guidance, Dr. Chris Baryomunsi.
Through his official X account, Muhoozi stated, “My mother, Mama Janet, ordered me to cease my war against Baryomunsi. Out of respect for her, I shall not pursue this matter anymore.”
The brief but pointed declaration highlights the influence of Janet Museveni (commonly referred to as Mama Janet), Uganda’s First Lady, within the country’s powerful first family.
Muhoozi, known for his outspoken and often combative social media presence, framed the decision as one of filial obedience rather than a retreat from principle.
The online clash reportedly escalated after exchanges involving political criticisms, including Baryomunsi’s responses to Muhoozi’s posts and accusations flying both ways—such as claims of inexperience or overreach. Baryomunsi had previously dismissed some of Muhoozi’s threats with sharp retorts, including references to “Peter Pan syndrome.”

This abrupt ceasefire underscores the dynamics of loyalty and hierarchy in Ugandan politics, where family directives can swiftly de-escalate high-profile disputes. Observers see it as a pragmatic move to avoid further embarrassment or internal rifts within the ruling NRM circle.
Whether the truce holds remains to be seen, but for now, Mama Janet’s intervention has silenced one of Uganda’s most vocal online battlefronts.
