The Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) has implemented a temporary nightly closure on a key section of Uhuru Highway in Nairobi to carry out essential maintenance works.
The affected stretch runs between the University of Nairobi Roundabout and the Westlands Roundabout, a vital artery linking the Central Business District to Westlands, Upper Hill, and major routes toward Nakuru and Mombasa.
The closure takes effect every night from 10:00 pm to 5:00 am, starting Friday, February 6, 2026, and continuing until Friday, February 13, 2026—a period of one week.
KeNHA Acting Director General Luka Kimeli explained that the measure addresses wear and tear caused by heavy traffic volumes on this busy corridor.
“This closure is to allow for highway maintenance works on the road section,” he stated, urging motorists to cooperate with traffic marshals and law enforcement on site.
To minimize disruptions, KeNHA recommends the Nairobi Expressway as the primary alternative.

Other detour options include Nyerere Road, Arboretum Drive, Westlands Ring Road, Parklands Ring Road, Ojijo Road, Kipande Road, Limuru Road, and University Way, depending on the direction of travel.
Motorists are advised to plan journeys ahead, especially during late-night hours, to avoid congestion and delays. Normal traffic flow is expected to resume after the works are completed.
