Saitabao Ole Kanchory is one of the most known people in the country. He is not only known because he was Raila Odinga’s Chief Agent in the 2022 general election but he is also known because of his controversial remarks.
Today, Ole Kanchory caused reactions in the country again as he dropped a controversial remark about IEBC.
Through his official X account, Kanchory claimed that the current IEBC leadership largely comprises former lieutenants of ex-Chairperson Wafula Chebukati, who oversaw the contentious 2022 general elections.
He listed key figures: Moses Sunkuli (Acting CEO), Obadiah Keitany (Deputy CEO and Head of Support Services), Gideon Balang (Operations), Michael Ouma (ICT), and Dickson Kwanususu (Admin).
Kanchory asserts this “same team” continues to run the IEBC today, alleging they executed a deliberate voter suppression program in 2022 by sabotaging gubernatorial polls in Mombasa and Kakamega—strongholds of the Azimio la Umoja coalition—and deploying defective KIEMS kits in other Azimio areas.

Drawing from personal experience, Kanchory positions himself as an informed critic, having “walked these streets” and knowing the “traps and pitfalls.”
He dismisses opposing views as uninformed, emphasizing his expertise on IEBC matters.
Recent developments lend partial context to his claims: Moses Sunkuli was appointed Acting CEO in February 2026 following the exit of the previous holder, and official IEBC records confirm several named individuals in senior roles.
The 2022 elections faced accusations of irregularities, including polling delays and ballot issues in select counties, though international observers noted challenges but did not conclusively validate widespread premeditated suppression.

Kanchory’s post, garnering significant engagement, underscores persistent distrust in the electoral body and calls for scrutiny of its continuity and impartiality as Kenya prepares for future polls.
