Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has leveled serious allegations against Murang’a Woman Representative Betty Maina, claiming she commanded police officers and civilians to disrupt his activities.
In a widely circulated statement attributed to Gachagua, he specifically named police officers John Maina alias Birash and Peter Wainaina Kabubuga, both reportedly attached to Maina’s security detail.
According to the quote, these officers, alongside goons led by Ambrose Manyeki from Murang’a, were involved in commanding attacks on his supporters in a church.
The accusations appear linked to a pattern of reported violence in the Mount Kenya region, including a recent incident at a church service in Othaya, Nyeri, where Gachagua claimed rogue officers—allegedly 15 in number tied to Maina’s bodyguards—stormed the gathering with rifles and tear gas after assembling at a pro-government MP’s home.

Similar claims have surfaced in prior episodes in Murang’a, Kirinyaga, and Narok, where Gachagua’s convoys or rallies faced alleged police-backed disruptions.
Gachagua has repeatedly questioned the impartiality of police leadership, arguing that politicians have commandeered security resources for political vendettas.
These claims highlight deepening rifts in the region amid Gachagua’s opposition to the current administration following his 2024 impeachment.

No official response from Maina or police authorities was immediately available on the latest statement, but the allegations fuel ongoing tensions in Kenyan politics.
