ODM Deputy Party Leader Godfrey Osotsi declared, “You won’t force me to support Ruto in 2027,” directly addressing Party Leader Oburu Oginga.
This remark underscores the escalating internal conflicts within the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) following the death of its founder, Raila Odinga, in late 2025.
Osotsi, a Vihiga Senator, has been vocal against what he perceives as attempts to align ODM with President William Ruto’s administration for the 2027 elections.
He accused party officials of using county resources to bolster Ruto’s re-election bid and criticized Oburu for defying calls for unity from Ida Odinga, Raila’s widow.
Alongside Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna and other “rebels,” Osotsi skipped key central committee meetings, signaling a factional split.
Oburu, Raila’s brother has downplayed the tensions, insisting they reflect democratic processes rather than division. However, Ruto has expressed interest in strengthening ODM, hinting at potential alliances.
This infighting could fragment ODM’s voter base in Western and Nyanza regions, impacting the 2027 polls.

As Osotsi warns of resistance to “destroying” the party, the battle for ODM’s soul intensifies, raising questions about its future role in Kenyan politics.
