Jimi Wanjigi, the leader of Kenya’s Safina Party, has issued a bold call to reject odious debt payments.
Through his official X account, Wanjigi declares, “I say NO to odious debt payments,” emphasizing that Kenyans have “suffered enough” repaying loans that delivered no tangible benefits—no development, roads, schools, or meaningful education.
Labeling much of Kenya’s public debt as odious—loans incurred without benefiting the population or often linked to corruption and mismanagement—Wanjigi argues that continued servicing drains resources from essential services and perpetuates economic hardship.
He frames this stance as a pivotal moment for change, urging citizens to “make a change” by joining the Safina Party, which he describes as “the vessel of Kenya’s economic revolution.”
This rhetoric aligns with Wanjigi’s longstanding campaign, including his “FIST Agenda” and calls for a “Debt Rebellion” with slogans like “Can’t Pay, Won’t Pay.”

As Kenya grapples with heavy debt burdens that consume significant budget portions, Wanjigi positions Safina as the vehicle for radical economic reform, prioritizing sovereignty, free education, healthcare, and liberation from burdensome repayments.
His message resonates amid ongoing public frustration with economic pressures, rallying support ahead of future political contests.
