Mandera Governor Mohamed Adan Khalif has fired back sharply at former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, dismissing him as a “confused loose-tongued old man” reeling from his impeachment and recent electoral setbacks.
In a strongly worded post on X (formerly Twitter), Governor Khalif addressed allegations from Gachagua regarding a disputed land parcel in Nairobi’s Parklands area.
Gachagua had accused the governor of grabbing public land to construct high-value apartments, reportedly worth billions, allegedly using looted public funds.
Khalif categorically denied the claims, stating he lawfully purchased the land in 2020—well before assuming office as Mandera Governor—from a “decent” senior leader in Murima, whom he contrasted with Gachagua, labeling the latter a “crook.”
He emphasized that the former owner had resided on the plot for over four decades, questioning how it could later be deemed public land after title transfer.
The governor noted he handed the land to a developer on a joint venture (JV) basis in 2021. He pointed out that the matter is currently before the courts, limiting his further comments, and challenged Gachagua to join the case if he possessed any evidence.

Khalif announced he had instructed his lawyers to institute legal action against Gachagua, describing him as a “rogue and bitter man.”
