Citizen TV journalist Linus Kaikai has ignited widespread debate online after sharing a post claiming that Israel has officially recognized Somaliland as a “sovereign and independent state.”
The post, shared on X, included an image of what appears to be a formal declaration by the State of Israel, dated December 26, 2025, and bearing signatures attributed to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Foreign Affairs Minister Gideon Sa’ar.
According to the document circulating online, Israel acknowledges a formal appeal from the President of the Republic of Somaliland requesting recognition.
The declaration states that, in light of shared values, strategic interests, and mutual respect, Israel has chosen to recognize Somaliland and establish full diplomatic relations.
It further claims that the move would contribute to peace, stability, and prosperity in the Horn of Africa and the Middle East.
If confirmed, such recognition would mark a historic diplomatic breakthrough for Somaliland, which declared independence from Somalia in 1991 but has struggled for decades to gain international recognition.
Israel would become one of the most prominent states to formally recognize Somaliland, potentially reshaping geopolitical dynamics in the Horn of Africa.
However, the development has already drawn sharp reactions, with critics urging caution and calling for official confirmation from both Israeli and Somaliland authorities.

Somalia’s federal government has consistently opposed any international recognition of Somaliland, viewing it as an integral part of Somali territory.
As the document continues to circulate widely on social media, analysts say the situation underscores the growing role of digital platforms in shaping diplomatic narratives.
All eyes are now on official government channels to verify the authenticity of the declaration and clarify Israel’s position on Somaliland’s long-standing quest for statehood.
