Inspector General of Police (IGP) Abbas Byakagaba has moved to reassure Ugandans of a peaceful electoral process, emphasizing that the Uganda Police Force is fully prepared to maintain law and order during the upcoming elections.
Speaking during a meeting with Senior Criminal Investigations Department (CID) officers drawn from various police stations, Byakagaba stressed the importance of adherence to the law and Electoral Commission guidelines.
The IGP assured the public that every measure has been put in place to ensure that citizens exercise their democratic rights in a secure environment, free from intimidation or violence.
He noted that the police are committed to impartiality and professionalism in handling electoral activities, underscoring the force’s role as a neutral arbiter in the democratic process.
However, Byakagaba issued a stern warning to individuals or groups intending to disrupt the elections.
He made it clear that any violation of the law or Electoral Commission regulations would attract strict legal consequences.
“Anyone who violates the law or Electoral Commission regulations will face legal consequences,” he stated firmly, sending a strong message to political actors, supporters, and the general public.
The meeting with senior CID officers highlighted the importance of intelligence gathering, swift investigations, and proactive policing to avert potential threats to peace and security during the electioneering period.
Byakagaba urged officers to remain vigilant and uphold the highest standards of integrity as they carry out their duties.

As Uganda heads into the election season, the assurance from the country’s top police officer is expected to calm public fears and build confidence in the security apparatus.
With growing political activity across the country, all eyes remain on the police to deliver on their promise of ensuring peaceful, fair, and lawful elections.
