The President of the Law Society of Kenya (LSK), Faith Odhiambo, has issued a strong statement regarding the mysterious death of Simon Warui while in police custody at Central Police Station, Mombasa.
Through her official X account, Odhiambo assured the public that the LSK is closely following up on the matter and is determined to ensure justice for the deceased and his family.
According to Odhiambo, the LSK has appointed an advocate to represent Warui’s family in monitoring the ongoing investigations.
She emphasized that the society’s priority is to uncover the full truth and circumstances surrounding Warui’s death, while holding accountable those responsible.
“We have appointed an Advocate to act on behalf of the family… ensuring that the full truth and circumstances leading to Mr. Warui’s death are uncovered, and the persons involved are held to account,” she said.

The statement also highlighted conflicting details about Warui’s disappearance and eventual death.
Reports from his family indicate that he went missing at around 10:00 a.m. on Sunday, a disappearance that was reported at Embakasi Police Station in Nairobi.
However, he was later discovered dead in a police station in Mombasa, raising serious questions about how he ended up there and the circumstances leading to his death.
Odhiambo confirmed that the LSK is working closely with civil society organizations and the Kenya National Commission on Human Rights (KNCHR) to ensure the matter is thoroughly investigated and resolved swiftly.
She also expressed gratitude to the Mombasa branch of the Law Society for their efforts in handling the case on the ground.

The LSK president reassured the public and Warui’s family that updates on the investigation will be shared, reaffirming the society’s commitment to pursuing justice.
This case adds to growing concerns over accountability in police custody deaths in Kenya.
