Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen has dismissed claims that Jubaland forces from Somalia are occupying a primary school in Mandera County.
According to reports, Murkomen assured residents that no learning institution is currently being used by foreign forces, labeling the allegations as misleading and intended to fuel unnecessary tension.
This comes after protests from locals who raised concerns over the reported training of Jubaland forces in the region.
Community members had expressed fears that the presence of the foreign troops would disrupt education and compromise the safety of learners.
Murkomen emphasized that while security agencies continue to monitor the situation closely, the government has not allowed any external forces to take over schools or public facilities.
He urged residents to remain calm, stressing that the Kenya Defence Forces and other security agencies are on the ground to ensure the protection of citizens and the integrity of Kenyan territory.
The Interior CS further cautioned against the spread of misinformation, which he said could incite unnecessary panic and strain relations between communities along the border.
He reiterated the government’s commitment to safeguarding education and security in Mandera, calling for cooperation from local leaders and residents.
