President Donald Trump has launched a sharp attack on Illinois Governor J.B. Pritzker, accusing him of downplaying crime in the state.
Speaking in his characteristic blunt tone, Trump said, “You have this slob, @JBPritzker — he’s the governor of Illinois. He’s trying to say that there’s no problem with crime. It’s a joke. These are sick people.”
The comments underscore Trump’s ongoing efforts to make crime and public safety central themes in his political messaging.
Chicago, in particular, has often been spotlighted by Republicans as a symbol of urban crime, with Trump frequently pointing to the city’s homicide and gun violence rates as evidence of failed Democratic leadership.
Governor Pritzker, a Democrat and outspoken critic of Trump, has defended his administration’s approach, emphasizing investments in law enforcement, community programs, and reforms aimed at addressing root causes of violence.
However, Trump dismissed such measures, portraying them as ineffective in tackling what he views as rampant lawlessness.

By directly targeting Pritzker, Trump is not only reigniting a long-standing feud but also signaling to his supporters that Democratic leaders are, in his view, ignoring or minimizing real problems faced by residents.
His remarks are likely to deepen partisan divides over how crime should be addressed, with Democrats emphasizing gun control and social programs, while Republicans push for tougher policing and stricter penalties.
