Teachers and participants from the Western Region have been left in shock following a message from Evans Agaya, the Western Region Music Chairperson, regarding the upcoming Kenya Music Festival (KMF) National competition in Meru.
In a WhatsApp communication to the official KMF Western Region group, Agaya revealed that after meeting with the Regional Director of Education (RDE), there are looming challenges in transporting teams to Meru.
According to Agaya, the main hurdle is the depletion of the financial kitty, which threatens to derail travel plans for the highly anticipated event.
“Ladies and gentlemen, we have met the RDE today and from what he has said, we might have a lot of problems transporting our teams to Meru,” Agaya wrote.
He urged members to start considering alternative mechanisms as a backup plan. He further noted that the RDE promised to seek additional support from county governments, with a final update expected on Monday.
The announcement sparked immediate reactions from group members, expressing disappointment and concern over the uncertainty.
The Kenya Music Festival is a prestigious event, and the looming financial constraints have raised fears of possible non-participation by Western teams if urgent solutions are not found.
