Senator Elizabeth Warren has condemned the Trump administration following a CBS News report that revealed it violated federal law by blocking the release of funds appropriated by Congress for the Head Start program.
The program, which supports early childhood education for low-income families, is seen as a critical investment in America’s future.
According to the report, the Government Accountability Office (GAO)—Congress’s independent watchdog—found that Trump officials unlawfully prevented the allocated money from being used, despite clear directives from Congress.
Warren reacted strongly to the findings, calling the act a scandal. “This is a SCANDAL: the Trump admin is basically stealing from families,” she posted.
“Congress wrote the law directing money to support education for little babies. Trump officials are illegally blocking it. Democratic lawmakers need to ring the alarm bell and fight back.”
The senator, a longtime advocate for education and child welfare, said the move reflects a broader pattern of disregard for legal norms and the needs of vulnerable Americans.
Warren urged her fellow Democrats to take action and ensure that laws passed by Congress are enforced without political interference.
The revelation has sparked outrage among education advocates and lawmakers who argue that withholding such crucial funding undermines efforts to close the opportunity gap for disadvantaged children.
As the controversy grows, pressure is mounting on Congress to hold those responsible accountable and ensure similar violations do not occur in the future.
