A senior Political commentator in Kenya has credited George Ruto, son of President William Ruto, with transforming the political engagement of Kenya’s Gen Z population.
According to the commentator known as Dr. Dennis Adison Ouma, George Ruto has successfully tapped into the vibrant Nganya or Matatu culture, a powerful element of urban youth identity, particularly in Nairobi and other towns across the country.
Speaking after the launch of “The MOOD”, (a uniquely branded matatu unveiled by George Ruto), Dr. Ouma noted the overwhelming turnout by young people.
He observed that unlike other public gatherings, this event saw no anti-government chants such as “Wantam” or “Ruto Must Go,” a sign of shifting political sentiments among Gen Zs.
“George Ruto has changed the political game for Gen Zs,” Dr. Ouma stated. “By embracing their culture, he is helping his father build a powerful connection with the youth ahead of 2027.”
He compared this strategy to that of Donald Trump’s son, Barron Trump, whose growing appeal among young Americans is believed to have contributed to Trump’s 2024 presidential victory.

“President Ruto is miles ahead in this game,” Dr. Ouma added, suggesting that leveraging George’s influence could be a game-changer in securing a second term.
As the political landscape begins to shift, it is increasingly clear that cultural relevance — especially among younger voters — may hold the key to electoral success.
President Ruto’s potential strategy of embracing youth culture through his son could be a defining factor in the 2027 race.
