Judicial Watch President Tom Fitton has sparked nationwide debate with his latest call for decisive federal action.
In a bold statement through his official X account, Fitton declared, “President Donald Trump should invoke the Insurrection Act nationally to protect life and property being put at risk by leftists in cities across America.”
The Insurrection Act, a rarely used federal law dating back to 1807, empowers the president to deploy military forces within the United States to quell civil disorder, insurrection, or rebellion.
Fitton argues that escalating violence, looting, and widespread lawlessness in several major U.S. cities demands urgent federal intervention.
Fitton has long been a vocal supporter of President Trump and an advocate for law and order. His remarks come amid growing concerns among conservative circles that Democratic-run cities are failing to maintain public safety and protect citizens’ rights.
He insists that the federal government has both a duty and the legal authority to act when local leadership is unwilling or unable to restore order.
Critics, however, warn that invoking the Insurrection Act could inflame tensions and deepen the political divide. Civil liberties groups have also expressed concern about the potential militarization of civilian spaces and the erosion of constitutional protections.
Whether Trump takes such a dramatic step remains to be seen, but the call has added fuel to an already heated political atmosphere.
