Former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi has issued a scathing condemnation of House Republicans following a controversial vote that could see millions of Americans lose access to vital assistance programs.
Through her official X account, Pelosi said, “House Republicans just voted to take Medicaid and food from 20 million Americans to fund tax breaks for billionaires. We must win in 2026, take back the House with Speaker Hakeem Jeffries and replace every GOP representative who voted for this abomination!”
The vote, centers around a Republican-backed budget plan that critics say slashes funding for Medicaid and nutrition assistance programs in order to finance substantial tax cuts for the ultra-wealthy and corporations.
Democrats have called the move immoral and deeply damaging, especially as millions of working-class and low-income families continue to grapple with economic hardship and rising healthcare costs.
Pelosi’s remarks are a rallying cry for Democrats ahead of the 2026 midterm elections, signaling a push to regain control of the House and empower Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries as the next Speaker. She emphasized that the vote was not only harmful but emblematic of the GOP’s misplaced priorities.
